Vision & values

As a caring Church of England School community, we believe that the vision of our school should be built on a foundation of core Christian Values.

Our Vision and values

Our school is a place for all to belong. Through love, we nurture all to grow in their own unique way. We create an environment for all to flourish; to forgive, be resilient and courageous, making difference to our community and the world beyond.

Our vision is based on Matthew 13, the Parable of the Sower:

A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

We are encouraged to think about and understand that the smallest things have the greatest potential when they are provided with the best environment for growth.

Love – God’s love pervades all parts of our school. We love learning, our friends, good books, the outdoors and we love those things in life that make us feel good. These can be people, places or things. Love is defined as to have affection for and care for something.

Courage – We encourage pupils to stand by their beliefs, being brave enough to do the right thing and show a willingness to take a calculated risk.

Forgiveness – we aim to share the importance of letting go and forgetting the negative things someone may have done to you and helping them to be a better person. At school, kindness and forgiveness is celebrated, helps us to feel better and promotes mental health and wellbeing too.

Resilience – We emphasise the importance of not giving up even when something is hard and embracing a challenge. We use the language of ‘we cannot do it yet’.

We believe this vision and our core values help us to sustain a culture within which:

  • We feel safe and secure
  • We embrace and celebrate difference and diversity
  • We appreciate and are aspirational for ourselves and each other
  • We enjoy and persevere in our learning,
  • We learn from our mistakes
  • We recognise and respond to environmental, moral, social, spiritual and economic issues.
  • We engage with the local community

We welcome those of all faiths and world views to join our inclusive and caring school community.

Spirituality

At Blewbury, we have developed a shared definition of what spirituality means to us. This is rooted in our vision and we share it with the pupils in the form of leaves around a tree, linking it with what it means to flourish.
