At Blewbury School we aim for the children to develop a love for literature and value the importance of reading as a gateway to a wealth of knowledge about the world around them. We are passionate and committed to raising the profile and attainment of reading throughout the school. Carefully planned teaching supports children in developing their ability to question, predict, clarify, summarise, identify, explain and make inferences. They will also be encouraged to develop a love of words.
For details on how we develop early reading, see our Phonics section below.

At Blewbury Primary School, we strive to provide all pupils with the necessary skills to be a confident and competent writer. We value the experience gained from learning in a vocabulary rich environment and endeavour to allow pupils to explore new words in a meaningful way by linking adventurous vocabulary to themes and text types. Our pupils are exposed to a range of genres and a variety of texts from across the curriculum as it is vital for them to make connections in their learning and feel confident when recording their ideas. We aim to provide meaningful and exciting writing opportunities with a clear purpose and audience for all our pupils to ensure that they get real enjoyment from being able to communicate effectively in writing.
