Key Stage 2

Monday 25th May

Half Term week

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Monday 25th May

Good morning children,

I hope that you are enjoying the sunny weather at the moment.

Some of you may decide to take a break from home leaning and that is ok, because it is half term week. For those of you who want to continue, then please look at the Key Stage 2 page for the writing and reading opportunities. BBC Bitesize have not provided any lessons this week for maths. However I suggest you go onto Education city to complete the times tables games and spend the week learning your times tables - x2, x3, x4, x5, x8, x10.

In writing this week we are keeping the around the world theme and changing the writing to a descriptive piece about your chosen country. Before attempting the writing, it is important to chose a picture of something interesting from your country. That could be a famous building, street scene, busy market, beach view, mountain range. You will find the writing much easier.

Remember to send in any pieces of finished work to my email address so that I can share them with everyone.

Take care

Stay safe

Friday 22nd May

Last day of term

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Friday 22nd May

Good morning children,

Today would have been the last day of the term and we had our yearly country dancing festival planned for the parents.

Yesterday, I challenged you to send me photos or video of you doing a dance of your chosen country. As it stands, I only have one from Fae. So, I will give you until next Friday and, if I have 5, then I will post a video of me doing a dance from a different country too.

Even though next week isn't actually term time, we have decided as teachers to carry on setting work for those of you who want it. So the Key Stages pages will be the same as if it is a normal week.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend everyone.

Take care and stay safe

Thursday

Thursday

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Thursday

Good morning children,

Today looks like it will yet another nice day. The sun is shining and the birds in my garden are chirping.

This week, lots of you have been sending in really good work. Well done for keeping on going. I really miss not seeing you all.

If we had of been in school, the plan was, that during this week, we would have been learning to country dance and have our usual performance to parents tomorrow. Instead we are all at home learning about different parts of the world and countries this week. One of the activities that we have suggested is to learn the national dance for you chosen country. Maybe you could send me pictures or a video of you performing that dance instead.

Here's a challenge... If I get 5 photos or videos of you performing your countries national dance then I will post a video of myself on the blog doing a national dance too!

It's down to you Picasso Class - challenge on!

Take care and stay safe

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Happy Monday

Good morning children,

I hope that you had a nice weekend and enjoyed some of the warmish weather.

This week we have new theme all about the world around us. What is it like to live in a different part of the world? This week you will be learning all about this wonderful planet that we live on. Go over tho the writing page and have a look at what we have planned for you this week.

Maths BBC Bitesize this week is using fractions and recognising fractions. Some of you may have done some work around fractions before if you were following the White Rose scheme.

Thank you for sending work to me. Don't forget to use this blog to talk to each other as well.

I miss you all.

Good morning everyone,

Today looks like it is going to be a nice sunny day and weekend. Don't forget to watch the celebration assembly on the celebration page as you may have a certificate this week. If not, it is still a good watch and a chance to see some of the teachers in school. This week Mr Brabin is joining us.

Enjoy the sunny weekend.

Well done to all of those children in Picasso who drew a picture of a wolf - they were all fantastic.

Wolf judging

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Thursday 14th May

Good morning children,

I am so pleased to see that so many of you have joined in with the wolf drawing competition. There are many entries on the page that Mr Brabin has set up.

Mr Mills is going to have a difficult time deciding who should win. They are all winners to me.

Have you seen my attempt? I did try because as you know art is not my strength - science, maths YES! Art NO! I persevered and gave it a good go. It is on the adult entry page.

Anyway, today is when we make the assembly video so please ensure that any work you have done this week is sent to me by lunchtime.

Take care. I'm glad you have enjoyed the theme on wolves.

Good morning children,

Don't forget today is spelling test day. Today's test is testing the words from last week which were the modal verbs. I hope that you are enjoying the sunshine.

So far I have had entries from Fae and Tallulah for the wolf drawing competition. Please make sure that you send them to Mr Brabin before tomorrow morning so that they can be judged; there is a prize for the winner.

Good morning children,

It is looking like today is going to be a lovely sunny day - I hope. I hope that you are enjoying this weeks theme about habitats and creating a poster of the Arctic wolf and it's habitat. For those of you who are working at your own pace, with your own work, that is fine too. Remember that all I want is to see you back, when it is safe, happy and well and ready to 'hit the ground running' with work.

I hope that you are all reading each day and doing at least a bit of writing, spelling and maths each week.

Keep up the good work and keep sending in your work to me so that I can share it with others.

Monday 11th May

New week

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Monday 11th May

Good morning children,

Thank you for sending me your work last week and well done to those children who received a certificate too. This week we have the same theme of animals, however we are moving onto writing a report about habitats and animals. If you are still working on your wolf persuasion, don't worry that's fine. Remember you do as much as you can.

The spellings this week are adding suffixes of s, es, ing, ed, er. Can you find other words like evolve that you can add to these prefixes.

What happens to the root word when the prefixes are added?

I hope that you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

I hope that you enjoyed the sunshine yesterday. I went out for a walk with my dogs.

Tomorrow is a bank holiday and we would have been having the day off school. See if you can find out why we were going to be having tomorrow off school. I know that Taylor and Tallulah have been finding out why.

Have you had a go at the spelling test from yesterday?

Thank you for sending in your work this week. Please make sure that it keeps on coming in.

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: May the Fourth be with you!

Good morning children,

I hope that you have had a nice weekend and spent sometime in the outdoors. Saturday was a nice day, so I spent time in my garden planting up new plants into pots ready for the summer.

Today is Tilley-Mae-Mae's 8th birthday. Happy birthday Tilley-Mae. I hope that you have a lovely day.

Yesterday was Trixie's birthday and on Saturday was Riley's birthday. This weekend has been busy with birthdays in Picasso Class.

This week we start a new theme - animals. New writing and also the maths has changed so please read Miss Costello's blog from Friday.

Today is the 1st May and there would usually be lots of May Day celebrations around the country particularly in Oxford on Magdalen Bridge.

Hopefully the weather will brighten up over the weekend so that you can get outside in the sunshine.

100th birthday

Captain Tom's birthday

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: 100th birthday

Good morning children,

Today is Captain Tom's 100th birthday and as a present the Queen has promoted him to a Colonel. So now he will be known as Colonel Tom. He is now a centenarian (100 year old).

Imagine what changes he has seen in his lifetime. This week we have had a history theme looking at Thomas Edison. The challenge for today is to find out about Colonel Tom - maybe you could do a fact file about his life. Or, look up what life was like 100 years ago in Britain or find out about different inventions over the past 100 years including what you're holding now -laptop/computer/mobile phone.

100 years ago if you had of said that you were holding a mouse, people would have thought you lived in a dirty house! The only mouse then was the 4-legged variety!

So Happy Birthday Colonel Tom

Good morning everyone,

It's looking like the weather will be nicer today than yesterday. So hopefully we will be back in the outdoors again. Thank you for sending me messages on the blog and by email. It is always lovely to hear from you and what you have been up to.

I received a message from Millie yesterday with a photo of her running 2.6km at the weekend. It got me thinking! What else could we do in Picasso Class that has 2 and 6 in it. So today's challenge is what can you do creatively that has 2 and 6 in the activity.

 Well done Millie!

Don't forget today is spelling test day and I have upload 2 spelling tests one that is for year 3/4 and one for year 5/6. Make sure that you choose the right one. You will find the test on the spelling page. Good Luck!

Happy Tuesday

Happy Tuesday

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Happy Tuesday

Good morning everyone,

Today the weather is not as nice as it has been recently. It would probably be a 'wet play' day in school. It's a day for doing some work from the ideas on the Key Stage 2 page, doing jigsaws, playing games, drawing and watching some of the BBC lessons for Key Stage 2.

Have you seen Ronnie's comment about Edison? He has already been finding out about him as have some of the rest of you - I'm sure.

I've created one of our word games for you to have a go at. Look below. How many words can you find? What's the 9 letter word?

Also I am attaching a message from Mrs Wilkinson to cheer you up

             !

FROM MRS WILKINSON.                                 WHAT'S THE WORD?

Monday 27th April

This day in history

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Monday 27th April

Good morning children,

Our focus this week is history and light.

Did you know that on this day, in history back in 1810, Ludwig van Beethoven composed his famous piano piece 'Für Elise'? Also in 2005, the superjumbo jet aircraft Airbus A380 made its first flight from Toulouse, France.

So today is the start of discovering facts about a man called Thomas Edison. When he lived, what he achieved and why he is well remembered.

Enjoy finding out this gentleman.

Look out for the video from Miss White too.

Take care

Morning children,
Thank you for all your messages yesterday - I really enjoyed reading them all. Today you need to go over to the celebration page to watch the assembly with Mrs Clark and I. We chose to sing 'This little light of mine' because I know that it is Tilley-Mae's favourite.

The sun is shining, enjoy your day.

Next week there will be a new page in the writing and spelling section. So don't forget to look.

Also on Wednesday I will be posting a video of a spelling test for you to do too.

Please keep the messages coming in.

Nicky Galbraith (nickyg) on: Day three of homeschooling

Hello children,

Thanks for the emails you are sending with your pieces of work. I would really like to hear from you on this blog too. So please message!

Today you might be continuing with your explanation text. Don't forget to include the sub-headings and the glossary. The glossary needs to be in alphabetical order and include definitions. You did such a good job of the water cycle explanations and I know that you will make these shadow ones ones just as good if not better!

Lots of you are getting on well with the maths too. Keep it up! On Friday I will be doing a celebration of the pieces of writing and other work that you are sending. So keep them coming in.

This afternoon Mrs White will be doing a video, so look out for that.
