Blewbury Endowed CE Primary School

'Shine your light and share it with the world!'

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to engage children of all ages in deep thinking about the past, present, and future of our planet. It is a curriculum we have designed to empower the children of Blewbury School to make a difference in the world.

We will ensure that all children flourish academically but of paramount importance is that they also learn the skills and knowledge needed to live successful and happy lives where they are informed, courageous advocates of the things that matter to them.

All curriculum subjects are mapped around an inquiry question and these inquiry projects build in complexity throughout the year and across the school, making as many connections as possible in order for deeper learning to take place.  To find out more, visit our curriculum maps page HERE.

How we ensure ALL children access our Curriculum

All pupils have access to our curriculum regardless of their individual ability, gender, race, culture or social background or any physical or sensory difficulty.  Our aim is that all children shine brightly and achieve highly regardless of their background or circumstances.

Children learn and thrive when they are healthy, safe and engaged.  To engage all children, we celebrate difference and diversity within our school community.  Blewbury School community is predominantly a white British community and therefore we have carefully chosen, within our curriculum, a range of resources, texts, international links, and inspirational people so cultural diversity is promoted and celebrated.

We ensure that gender is represented equally and that inquiry questions, themes and resources appeal to boys and girls, so all children have equal access to our curriculum.

Provision is made to develop the talents of more able pupils in a variety of ways.  Through increasingly complex investigative tasks, and open-ended tasks which enable them to tackle more complex issues and understand more difficult concepts.

Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are supported so they can succeed in all areas of our curriculum.  Our school inclusion co-ordinator works with all staff to ensure barriers to learning, for pupils with additional needs, are fully understood and strategies are in place to help children overcome these barriers and make good progress.

See SEND policy for the full range of support offered.
